How to Remove C2PA and “Made with AI” Metadata from Images

Even when an AI image has no visible logo, it can still announce itself. Most major tools now embed C2PA Content Credentials and EXIF/IPTC tags inside the file — quiet labels that say “this was made with AI.” Here’s what they are and how to strip them.

What is C2PA / Content Credentials?

C2PA (the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) is an industry standard for attaching a tamper-evident record to a file: what made it, when, and how it was edited. When you see “Content Credentials” on an image from ChatGPT, Adobe Firefly or Gemini, that’s C2PA. It rides along inside the file and can be read by any compatible viewer.

The other tags that label your image

• EXIF — camera/software fields that can name the AI tool that produced the image.
• IPTC / XMP — descriptive metadata that some tools use to add a “digital source type: AI” marker.
• “Made with AI” labels — platform-specific flags (e.g. Google’s) that piggyback on the above.

How to remove the metadata
